Volkswagen plans to sell the starting edition of its ID.3 vehicle to customers who have pre-ordered the fully electric hatchback from next month.
Customers who have made reservations for the Launch Edition known as ID.3 1st can order their vehicle from June 17th according to a tweet from Volkswagen board member Jürgen Stackmann. Volkswagen has registered more than 37,000 reservations for the first edition, which will be limited to 30,000. Orders for right-hand drive markets will be opened in July, said Stackmann.
The announcement follows the automaker's decision last month to resume production of the ID.3 at its Zwickau, Germany plant, which was discontinued due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Production of the ID.3 1st resumed on April 23, initially with reduced capacity and slower cycle times.
The ID.3 is the first model of the company's new all-electric ID brand and the start of its ambitious plan to sell 1 million electric vehicles annually by 2025. The ID.3 is only sold in Europe. Other models under the ID brand are sold in North America.

The four-door five-door hatchback is as long as the VW Golf. Thanks to the shorter overhangs of the ID.3, its wheelbase is larger, which gives the vehicle a more spacious interior. The special edition will be available in Germany from 40,000 euros, the company said.
Volkswagen will initially fulfill its orders for the special edition of the ID.3. VW customers paid a deposit of € 1,000 ($ 1,122 based on last year's conversion) to pre-order the special vehicle. Volkswagen said the ID.3 1st will include free electric charging up to a maximum of 2,000 kWh at all public charging stations connected to the Volkswagen charging app WeCharge and using the Europe-wide fast charging system IONITY for the first year.
Volkswagen plans to produce the ID.3 in three configurations – Pure, Pro and Pro S.
The ID.3 Pure is the entry-level model that will be equipped with a 45 kWh battery that can travel up to 260 miles according to the WLTP standard. The entry-level version costs less than 30,000 euros on the German market and is equipped as standard with 18-inch steel wheels, LED headlights with automatic light control and LED rear light clusters.
The ID.3 Pro has a larger battery than the Pure, a larger range, more power and shorter charging times and will start in Germany at less than 35,000 euros. The Pro S is at the top of the model range and includes sportier equipment, including 19-inch Andoya wheels and “Play & Pause” design pedals.
