Blurb from the author: We have now written some MCO / COVID-19 articles about what different companies from different industries have done to help during the pandemic, be it in the service of the public or our frontliners. But we haven't written about pharmacies yet, so I was wondering what can a pharmacy do to help at this point?
We contacted Watsons Malaysia to get an insight into their pharmacy work and spoke to Caryn Loh, its general manager.
The country currently operates more than 500 Watsons stores.
First of all we
wanted to know what was different than usual with the MCO now in place.
How things are
By government order, the standard business hours of Watsons Malaysia stores have been changed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., so that employees of their shops can rest and go home to spend time with their families.
The pharmacy also has
Initiatives taken to ensure customer safety and hygiene. "Our whole shop
Frontliners wear face masks and take care of their personal hygiene,
Make sure the shop equipment is disinfected and practice social distancing
Make sure buyers are 1 meter from the checkout and apart
Shopping, ”said Caryn.

But so are you
Encourage shoppers to stay home and shop online as Watsons Malaysia can
deliver to them.
You can purchase most of the pharmacy supplies via the app. However, Caryn said that electronic prescriptions for buying over-the-counter medicines online have not yet been fully recognized by the Department of Health.
“Hence prescription drugs
would still have to be picked up personally at the pharmacy tables.
Selected Watsons stores across the country are still open and our pharmacists are in
the pioneering role for our customers, ”she added.
Caryn assured us that her partners were wearing face masks, personal hygiene,
and work towards contactless deliveries.
Give what they
Watsons Malaysia too
contributed products and deliveries to hospitals and frontliners in the healthcare sector
Help curb the spread of COVID-19 as part of its CSR efforts.
The contribution included Watson's own branded products such as Watson's Antibacterial Wipes, Watson's Vitamin C, hand disinfectants, thermometer scans and raincoats.
That was in
Working with #KitaJagaKita, an NGO that connects those who a
Help for the needy through their civil-social initiative.
The deliveries were channeled
to 17 hospitals and health centers in the Klangtal, such as Hospital Sungai
Buloh, PPUM, Selayang Hospital, HUKM and Kesihatan Clinic.

"Our warehouse management and staff ensure that all products are thoroughly checked before they go to our front liners," said Caryn.
Throughout the process, she added that employees wear face masks and gloves when managing the items and, of course, practice good personal hygiene and social distance when performing the packaging.
"As a pharmacy chain
We must remain available to people in order to maintain their essential needs in a way that
is safe and convenient, ”said Caryn.
"At Watsons we have
Several initiatives to support this, and we also encourage Malaysians to stay
healthy and safe in line with the government's order to stay home and safe
during this time to smooth the curve. "

Grocery stores have been recognized for their initiatives thanks to the attention that the panic buying triggered, but I don't think many of us had thought about how the pharmacies were doing during the MCO.
It's good to see
Watsons Malaysia gives an example of the role a pharmacy can play in this
Time when the items they donated could simply be sold
I hope to see more of it
Wherever possible, these initiatives will be carried out by more pharmacy chains
that Watsons Malaysia itself will continue to do this for as long as possible
Bottom line: I can't think of a more suitable party than pharmacies to donate important items to our medical centers to help, as pharmacies have been supplying these items to the public 365 days a year. One thing that also reminded me of this interview was that pharmacy employees are frontliners themselves and deserve the greatest respect.
