As the COVID-19 situation evolves and wearing face masks becomes the new normal, face recognition of the iPhone is less effective because half of your face is covered with a piece of fabric.
This means that whenever you are outside, you will have to wait a few uncomfortable seconds before your iPhone X / XR / XS / 11 opens the passcode menu and you can unlock it.
Fortunately, Apple employees have identified this issue and provided a workaround in its latest version iOS 13.5 Software update announced today.
If you swipe up on your lock screen with this update, the passcode menu will appear immediately. This will help you unlock your phone faster and avoid looking like an idiot in public.

This function also works for authentication with the App Store, Apple Pay and other apps that support login with Face ID.
The previous method wasn't that much of an inconvenience (there are certainly more worries at this point), but one that adds up considering that we're likely to be wearing face masks in the foreseeable future.
The iOS 13.5 update is available now and you can go Settings> General> Software update on your iPhone to install it.
The update also includes some other improvements that you can see for yourself here, but this is definitely the most significant of the series.
