Zooming TikTok is partnering with Shopify and Jack Dorsey sets out his case for tomorrow's Senate hearing. This is your daily crisis for October 27, 2020.
The big story: Zoom adds end-to-end encryption to free calls
Zoom was criticized earlier this year for offering end-to-end encryption only to paid users. Now it is said that free users will also have the option, starting with Zoom 5.4.0 on both desktop and mobile.
There are some catches, however. When you use end-to-end encryption in a free meeting, features such as cloud recording, live transcription, and meeting responses are not available, and attendees cannot join the call by phone.
You will also need to provide a phone number and billing information. You'll also need to use the Zoom app instead of joining a meeting from a web browser.
